In 1976, after the fall of South Vietnam, the new government renamed the city into Ho Chi Minh City. However, the city is still referred to as Ho Chi Minh by the locals. With a population of over 5 million people, Ho Chi Minh is one of the densest urban areas in the world. Unlike other cities in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh is very active at night.
